This is an expedition not for the faint hearted as we travel along the rivers Ene & Tambo by canoe over 6 days. This expedition takes you through an area of Peru rarely visited, where you are guaranteed to find some of the most authentic experiences in Peru.
We take you into the heart of Ashaninka territory in Junin, where we stay with Ashaninka communities and learn about their culture and traditions. Share stories over a bowl of Masato and stay in the heart of the Amazon Highlands.
On this trip we travel by traditional Pitotsi canoe – Road access is limited so we make our way along the river instead.
Meeting Point: Satipo, Peru.
Meet your fellow adventurers, expedition crew and local community representatives at our welcome briefing. We leave Satipo by 4×4 towards the start point of our expedition by the river. On arrival, we are hosted by local community organizations to share dinner, and stories and learn about Ashaninka culture and traditions.
Before we leave in the canoes, we will have a safety briefing and introduction to the Pitotsi canoes you will be paddling for the duration of the expedition.
Over the next 5 days, we will explore the Ene river as we travel downstream toward the jungle town of Atalaya. Every day is different and each evening we will stay with a different community along the river. The area is remote so we will be setting up camp at each stop. Expect between 4 – 6 hours of paddling each day with a stop for lunch.
Celebrate your epic achievement with a buffet dinner and festivities as we complete our journey along the Ene & Tambo rivers. Relax by the pool at our hotel and get some well-deserved rest. The next day, choose to take the 4×4 transfer back to Satipo after breakfast, or continue on your adventures through the Amazon.
Due to the remoteness of the areas we visit, facilities are limited on this trip. This is real adventure – You won’t find electricity, mobile reception or internet access on this expedition.
