One of worlds most remote waterfalls – Las Tres Hermanas
The Junín region of Peru is filled with natural wonders. Deep in Otishi National Park is Las Tres Hermanas Waterfall. It is the third highest in the world at 914 metres. This spectacular waterfall is so remote, that is has apparently only been photographed by air.
This remote natural wonder can be found in the northern fork of the Cutivireni River, close to Satipo. The name translated means ‘ The Three Sisters’, and if you look at the image on the right side you can see three distinct sections of the water crashing almost a kilometre to the forest below. The top two sections are around 180 m each and the water flow returns back to the Cutivireni river.
Las Tres Hermanas is located in Otishi National Park. This areais home to a variety of wildlife including Spectacled Bears and Giant Anteaters. The National Park was created in 2003 due to the high number of impressive natural features and wildlife in the area.
Currently, access to view the Tres Hermanas Waterfall is heavily restricted. It is only accessible by air and by permit only by the ‘National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State of Satipo’. Due to it’s remote location, only a handful of explorers have reached it.
